It all started from CyanogenMod, an Android based custom ROM contributed by thousands of developers. For some dispute (a long story) CyanogenMod (in fact CYNGN) had to be shutdown and there born the LineageOS which was the same CyanogenMod from in and out but with a different name.

More on this in the later sections!

LineageOS FAQs

Below are some of the questions that people usually ask about LineageOS.

What is LineageOS?

LineageOS is a Android custom ROM that brings their own developments on top of vanilla Android. Less feature packed but more secure.

Technically, CyanogenMod has become LineageOS from inside out. With that said, further development stopped on CyanogenMod and the same has been continued on LineageOS. This happened around the CyanogenMod 14.1 version and hence it has LineageOS 14.1 as a counter part.

LineageOS brings the latest Android for many devices. It is the savior for those devices which has been forgotten by their OEMs in terms of new Android updates. Till now LineageOS has brought latest Android updates to many such Android phones.

Is LineageOS Google Free?

Yes it is!

LineageOS is the only Android custom ROM that is completely Google FREE and free from bloated software. Every app that you see after the first booting is their own and written from scratch.

Because of Copyright issues Google proprietary apps are now available as GApps outside of any custom ROMs. But that is not mandatory for you to install.

You can install MicroG to substitute Google Play Services and install Aurora Store APK to get Play Store like app browser.

Is LineageOS Secure?

Yes!

  • There is no bloatware, no hidden apps or service running in background neither it records user behaviors.
  • In fact it is the only custom ROM that has a CTS like Device Supported Requirements before a device is supported officially by the team.
  • Monthly security patches are actively pulled and merged to the source tree which then goes into the official NIGHTLY builds periodically.
But this is not the case with an Unofficial build. An unofficial build is that which does not satisfy the device requirement standard and hence the developer is building it in his/her free time.

In this case the only security patch might be a few months old, that’s all. Rest all remains the same unless modified by the developer!

In the current time, many apps and OS are accused of stealing user’s personal information and recording user behavior. With the reach of smartphone to millions people a user is vulnerable to all these.

Of course like other they also collect some user information but it is clearly mentioned what they collect.

Will LineageOS Work On My Phone?

If LineageOS is available for your phone then it is specifically built for your phone and it will work. If not you can install LineageOS GSI with a proper vendro image to make it work if your phone is treble compatible.

LineageOS is available since the Android Nougat days. By now many phones have got the support either officially or unofficially.

Not all device get the LineageOS update as it has to be built from source. So, any device that has a developer working on it is most likely to get the updates.

What you will get in this page?

Everything about LineageOS. Features in every version, Download to all available versions etc.

Every year there is a new Android version comes up and hence a new LineageOS update also comes for almost all latest and few older devices (this is relatively with time).

Many devices do not get the latest LineageOS as those lose to attract developers. This makes it quite difficult for users to keep track of different LineageOS ROMs available for their own devices.

Keeping this in mind I thought to collect all LineageOS ROMs such as:
LineageOS 18 (Android 11)
LineageOS 17.1 (Android 10)
LineageOS 16 (Android P)
LineageOS 15.1 (Android Oreo)
LineageOS 14.1 (Android Nougat)
LineageOS 13 (Android Marshmallow)

and beyond (arranged in a format recent to last), available for all devices and compile it on a single page which will help users to find the best possible LineageOS ROM for their device(s).

Where to Download LineageOS?

Below table has the LineageOS device list for corresponding Android version:

Android 8.1 Oreo OFFICIAL List OFFICIAL LineageOS 15.1 Download

Individual LineageOS version page contains LineageOS ROM for ported devices. If your device is not listed on a particular LineageOS list page such as LineageOS 14.1 or LineageOS 15.1; then either that might not have been built by any developer or just not listed on that page because I failed to explore about the same.

In any case, you can login and place a request for your device and I will try to search get it listed on that page, as far as possible.
