Micromax Canvas Spark 3: Short Hardware Spec Review

The Micromax Canvas Spark 3 – q385 is a low cost budget friendly Android smartphone from Micromax. The Canvas series from Micromax gave popular devices in India to the budget buyers. Looking at the Canvas Spark 3 which is launched at a price of just Rs. 4,999, approximately $80 with HD display, 1GB RAM, 8 MP primary camera and more. Before discussing further lets have a look on the basic hardware specifications.

Canvas Spark 3 Key Hardware Specifications:

– 5.5 inch HD IPS touch display
– Spredtrum 1.3 GHz quad-core chipset
– 1GB DDR3 RAM with 8GB internal memory with 32GB expandable storage option
– 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera
– 2G, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS connectivity
– 2500mAh battery capacity

Above is the basic hardware specifications for the Micromax Canvas Spark 3 – q385 model which looks pretty decent for the price tag of INR 4,999. For this kind of low budget smartphones, what matters is the price to spec ratio. Having said that, lets have a look in detail for some of the above mentioned hardware specifications.

Design and Display:

It has a 5.5 inch IPS LCD touch display with 16 Million color depth, 1280×720 HD resolution. Yes, to the price tag this is the one which will fit more appropriately. A 720p HD resolution IPS LCD display is outdated for most of the devices but it is completely immaterial for budget buyers because the 5.5 inch display is more than enough for them to be happy with.
I cannot predict the design right now but yes it looks pretty decent and must be having a plastic body.

SC 7731 Processor and benchmark values:

Canvas Spark 3 comes with a Spreadtrum SC7731 1.3 GHz Quad Core chipset. The Quad-core seems to be attractive for this and yes I will say for the price tag and from the performance point of view this is not bad at all.
You may ask here how am I sure that the performance is good for what am I paying? The following video by Mohit Sharma where he compares the benchmark figures of a Spreadtrum SC7731 and a Snapdragon 410 chipset. Yes, the Spreadtrum SC7731 lags while playing the Subway Surfers game but you should ask yourself, so what? A Rs. 4,999 (USD 80) phone cannot run all of the games out there and this is completely OK. If you want a better phone then I must say that pay a little more and get a better phone.

Also the benchmark figures are pretty fine to me. On GeekBecnh 3 it has scored a Single-core value of 332 and Multi-core Score of 964 which is almost equivalent to the 1st Gen Motorola Moto G (of course outdated) which has scored a Single-core value of 332 and Multi-core Score of 1122.

So, here goes the SC7731 vs Snapdragon 410 video:

Memory and Storage on Canvas Spark 3:

It comes with 1 GB DDR3 and an 8GB internal memory with expandable storage option upto 32GB via a microSD card. The 8GB seems to be low but again it can be compensated by an external microSD card. As mentioned on Snapdeal’s website, the user will get only 4.5GB of space to install applications and to store any user data like: photos, videos, sound tracks etc. No comments on the 1GB RAM because it is perfectly assembled for the price tag.

Canvas Spark 3 Camera and Multimedia:

8MP Auto Focus primary camera looks good on specs but have to see how it delivers on the quality side. Also a 5MP selfie shooter is too good to have on an low-end budget Android powered smartphone. The primary camera is capable of capturing 720p HD videos and capable of playing Full HD 1080p videos.

Pre-installed apps and games on the Micromax Canvas Spark 3:

Following are the pre-installed apps: Snapdeal, Quikr, Hike, OLX, Skype, Scandid, M!live, M!games, operamini, oxigo cab, oxigo travel, clean master, CM security, CM locker, Indus launcher.
Pre-installed games include: Monstor truck saga, temple paradise.

The overall hardware specification and other details looks pretty decent which comes with a price tag of Rs. 4,999. Also, Micromax as a well known reputed brand I think you will good some good service options nationwide.
