Samsung launched its new smartwatch on August 5, 2020, along with its new range of smartphones. This watch comes with lots of new hardware and software upgrades. While Apple launched its Series 5 watch in September of last year, lets compare which is a better deal for your bucks.
Display & Design
One of the reasons the Apple Watch 5 is the best watch from apple to date is its always-on display. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3’s screen is always-on, too. Another display similarity between the Galaxy Watch 3 and Apple Watch 5 are ambient light sensors. These detect how bright your environment is and adjust the display accordingly, so it is never too dim or too bright.
The biggest design difference between the watches is the shape: The Galaxy Watch is round; the Apple Watch is square. Galaxy Watch 3 looks more like a traditional analog watch and it is made of stainless steel.
The Apple Watch runs on WatchOS, which is only compatible with an iPhone, while the galaxy watch 3 is running Samsung’s own Tizen OS, which is best paired with a Galaxy phone, but it will work with most Android and Apple devices as well.
The most important thing to consider when choosing between these two smartwatches is whether it is compatible with your smartphone.
Battery life & Storage
The Galaxy Watch 5 has a battery life of 2 days whereas the Apple series 5 has 18 hours of battery life. The Galaxy Watch 5 has 8GB of storage and the Apple series 5 has 16GB of storage. Let’s just say, you must carry your charger if you are going out for more than a day in either case.
Health & Tracking
Both smartwatches have a built-in electrocardiogram (ECG, or sometimes EKG) that lets you know if your heart rate is perfect. Both the watches have activity trackers which help you to exercise properly and both the Galaxy Watch 3 and the Apple Watch Series 5 have all the basics when it comes to fitness tracking: continuous heart rate monitoring, built-in GPS, water-resistance up to 50 meters, and over 30 different workouts in their catalogs. The Series 5 has a compass, and as far as we know, the Galaxy Watch 3 does not. The Galaxy Watch 3 also has an app that lets you monitor stress levels and blood pressure, while the apple watch offers female health tracking.
Both the watches have wireless payments (though Apple Pay is not yet available in India), but galaxy watch 5 has much better sleep tracking. The Apple Watch 5 is priced at Rs. 40,900 and the Galaxy Watch 3 at Rs 29,000. If you are an iOS user, Apple Watch series 5 is a no-brainer.
