    You need to unlock bootloader on your Samsung phone in order to ROOT it, install TWRP recovery, or to install custom ROM such as LineageOS etc.

    I will be taking you through a simple easy Step By Step beginner’s guide which I bet to be a buttery smooth experience even for the first time users. Just make sure to follow each instruction and you must not SKIP any step unless stated in this guide.

    It is important to understand that there could be some serious impacts if the instructions are not followed properly.
    Keep this in mind that you will lose your data while unlocking the bootloader on your Samsung Phone and hence before proceeding further you may consider to backup data on your Phone.
    YOU are the only person making changes to your phone and I cannot be held responsible for the mistakes done by you.

     

    How to Unlock Bootloader on Samsung phone

    Samsung has a very simple process of bootloader unlock unlike any other OEM. You don’t need to execute any command on a PC. Unlokc the bootloader from just your phone, that’s it. Without much ado, let’s jump straight into the actual bootloader unlock process.

    How to Unlock Bootloader on Samsung

    1. First, enable Develope options on your Samsung phone.
      – To enable developer options, go to Settings > About phone > Software Information > Tap 7 times on the Build number

      Once done correctly, you will see, Developer options has been enabled on your screen.

    2. Now go back to Settings > Developer options (will be found below About phone)
    3. Find and enable OEM unlocking.

      A pop-up message will appear with a heading of Turn on OEM unlock or Allow OEM unlocking.
      Read the message carefully and click on Enable or Turn on as it appears on your screen.

      For phones like Galaxy Note 9 Exynos etc. a factory reset will initiate automatically after enabling OEM unlock, which will DELETE ALL data on your phone. This will delete all your personal information and downloaded apps. To proceed further follow the on-screen instructions.

      You can consider a backup using Samsung Smart Switch or any other backup application of your choice.

    4. Then shutdown and restart your Samsung phone into Download mode.

      There are certain key combination that has to be pressed to enter into download mode.

    5. In the download mode, you will see Volume up long press: Device unlock mode. Press the Volume up button for few seconds till it enters into bootloader unlock mode.

      If you don’t see this Device unlock mode option in the download mode, then you can presume that the bootloader unlock process is complete on your phone and nothing more has to be done.

    6. Once you are on the Unlock bootloader screen, read the message carefully and press the Volume up button to unlock the bootloader.
    7. The phone will restart automatically and will erase all the data on your phone.

      You can consider a backup using Samsung Smart Switch or any other backup application of your choice.

    What to do after unlocking bootloader?

    Install TWRP on your Samsung phone
    – Install custom ROM such LineageOS etc.
